Home Business: Teaching Your Kids To Be Entrepreneurs
Nobody is really too young to go into business. Your eight year old or ten year old kid can already be taught to become an entrepreneur. According to studies, teaching your kids to be entrepreneurs at a very young age can help him or her succeed later in life. Teaching kids the value of money while they are very young will help them understand the meaning of living within their means and saving.
Getting Started
The best way to teach your kids to become entrepreneurs is to involve them in your home business. Actually, involving your kids in your home business has dual purpose. First, it can help your kids appreciate the idea of being an entrepreneur and second asking your kids to help you in your business allows you to have some quality time together.
Since you need to work hard and earn a living for the family, it would not be wise to let your kids hang around your office most of the time while you work. Set a specific time of the day when your kids can come inside your office and help you do your work. You can give your kinds some simple things. For instance, if you are engaged in selling dog products online, you can ask you kids to help you make an inventory of the products that you have. Make the experience enjoyable for your kids so that they will be eager to come back and help you again. Develop your kids’ interest in the different aspects of the business turning the whole process into a kind of game. You may also pay your kids salary for helping you so that they will learn to appreciate the value of labor.
Once your kids become really interested in your business, you can start introducing them to the idea of running their own business. Let them use the internet to get ideas for their business. However, you should not let your young kids use the internet without proper supervision. Note that there are plenty of bad people lurking online so be careful about exposing your kids to these kinds of people.
Helping Your Kids Set Up Their Own Business
When your kids are old enough to grasp the idea of going into online business, they will probably want to set up their own business. When this happens, you should be prepared to help your kids set up their own home business. Before your kids set up their own home business, you should guide them through the process of business planning. Try to make the whole process appear like you are just playing a game so that the kids will not get bored. For instance, you can use colored paper and coloring pens in writing the different steps that you and your kids should do to set up the business.
Aside from introducing your kids to basic business planning, you should also introduce your kids to simple bookkeeping and recording so that they can keep track of their earnings and expenditures. The bookkeeping and recording need not be complicated. You can just ask your kinds to draw two columns then write all their income in one column and their expenditures on the other.
